Celebrating Waxahachie’s History, One Site at a Time
Historic Waxahachie, Inc. (HWI) is dedicated to honoring the buildings, places, and people that have shaped the character of our city. Through our Historic Marker Program and Historic Signage efforts, we help mark the stories of Waxahachie’s past and preserve them for future generations.
Since its inception in 1977, HWI’s marker program has recognized more than 200 of Waxahachie’s historic structures. These prestigious markers are symbols of pride, stewardship, and the shared heritage of our community, and we eagerly encourage property owners’ participation.
Each marker provides a lasting tribute to a building's significance and offers visitors a richer, more informed experience of our city.

In addition to historic markers, HWI helps identify important historic sites that no longer exist through interpretive signage placed throughout the city. These signs provide context about Waxahachie’s lost landmarks and give residents and visitors a deeper connection to the past.
If you know of a site that should be commemorated with a historic sign, we welcome your suggestions!
