Preserving the Character of Downtown Waxahachie

Historic Waxahachie, Inc. is proud to offer the Façade Restoration Grant Program, designed to support the revitalization and preservation of Waxahachie’s unique architectural heritage within the Downtown Historic Overlay District.
You can help preserve the exterior character of your commercial building and our historic downtown with the support of our grants!

Purpose

We provide limited grants to restore historic commercial buildings that qualify within our historic downtown. The purpose is to encourage property owners within the Waxahachie Downtown Historic Overlay (WDHO) District to accurately restore or rehabilitate the front façade of their buildings.

Who Is Eligible?

  • Any business owner located within the Waxahachie Downtown Historic Overlay (WDHO) District is eligible to apply
  • Projects must involve historically appropriate exterior improvements that preserve, restore, or rehabilitate the original historic features of the building
  • All work must receive pre-approval from the Waxahachie Heritage Preservation Commission (HPC)
  • Only projects with HPC approval prior to the start of construction will be considered

Grant Details

  • Grant Amount: Up to $5,000
  • Availability: Offered annually beginning each February, on a first-come, first-served basis as funds are available
  • Payment: Grants are reimbursed after the work is completed and final approval is received from the HPC and HWI

How to Apply

  • Contact HPC through the City of Waxahachie Heritage Preservation Manager, before any work is completed.
  • Complete HWI Façade Grant application and submit to the Heritage Preservation Manager with your HPC application.
  • Obtain pre-approval signatures from HPC for design work.
  • Obtain pre-approval signature from HWI Board President for grant request.
  • Complete building work within 12 months of grant approval.
  • Obtain final approval from HPC for completed work.
  • Provide HWI Representative with HPC final approval.
